چکیده

The aim of this paper is to assess the change detector r specifically elaborated to analyse ENVISAT ASAR Wide Swath Mode (WSM) data pairs for plain flood changes detection. The algorithm relies on an enhanced ratio for strong changes over large homogeneous and flat areas combined with a ratio calculated from the two raw images. The change detection assessment was conducted on 14 image pairs exploiting the ENVISAT WSM database set up over the Poyang Lake within the framework of the Flood DRAGON Project. The best results were obtained by performing a supervised classification on a colour composite combining the change detector r, the before and after images. Change extraction accuracy reaches 86.3% and is very robust despite the differences in data polarization combinations. Mainly focused on plain flood changes, the proposed change detection procedure is also sensitive to changes relative to intensive shipping, rice cycles and wetland vegetation growth.

Change Detection Analysis Dedicated to Flood Monitoring Using Envisat Wide Swath Mode Data

Semi-automatic flood extraction procedures based on change detection techniques appear particularly adapted to plain flood monitoring and mapping. The change detector was specifically elaborated to analyse ENVISAT ASAR Wide Swath Mode data pairs, which appear very well adapted to flood monitoring over wide areas. The algorithm is based on two analysis levels: an enhanced ratio for strong change...

Monitoring Water Level Seasonal Variations of Large Natural Lake Exploiting Envisat Asar Low Resolution Time Series: Application to the Poyang Lake

Within the framework of the Flood DRAGON project, an assessment of ASAR Global Monitoring (GMM) data has been carried out over the Poyang Lake, Jiangxi province, P.R. China. This study consists of one of the first assessment of low resolution ASAR data, ENVISAT low rate mode, for land applications. Sixteen ASAR GMM images, which give a good overview of an on going situation over very large area...

Near Realtime Snow Covered Area Mapping with Envisat Asar Wideswath in Norwegian Mountaineous Areas

A near-real time GMES-relevant monitoring system for semi-operational retrieval of snow covered area for hydrological and climatological applications has been developed in the Envisnow EC EESD FP 5 project. The system, using ENVISAT ASAR wide swath data from ESA AOE 785 and from the Kongsberg satellite station, geocodes and classifies Envisat ASAR data automatically, and produces SCA maps with ...

The Asar Wide Swath Single Look Complex Product: Properties and Applications

In the ENVISAT products list, ESA is going to add a new one: the ASAR Wide Swath Complex product, containing Wide Swath Mode (WSM) phase preserved data focused on a coherent grid. The image will cover an area of 400 x 400 km, at a resolution of approximately 30 × 120 m (range, azimuth) with three independent looks, interleaved in azimuth. The intended applications are interferometry, wavewind s...

Varying Scale and Capability of Envisat ASAR-WSM, TerraSAR-X Scansar and TerraSAR-X Stripmap Data to Assess Urban Flood Situations: A Case Study of the Mekong Delta in Can Tho Province

Earth Observation is a powerful tool for the detection of floods. Microwave sensors are typically favored as they deliver data enabling water detection independent of solar illumination or cloud cover conditions. However, scale issues play an important role in radar based flood mapping. Depending on the flood related phenomenon under investigation, some sensors might be more suitable than other...
